please elaborate on the essential contents in both the ‘first aid kit’ and ‘emergency kit’
Hi Brian,
I carry a “Pro-Paddler” Medical Kit. It is small enough to not be overly cumbersome but has a good base of First Aid essentials. I add to it more nitrate gloves and a pocket mask. http://www.nrsweb.com/medkits.asp
As for an emergency kit I suggest: Lighter, glowstick/headlamp, high energy food (voke tab), emergency blanket would be the basics. The rest depends on what I am doing. As I spend alot of days on the river in Central America where it gets dark very early…so I think about what I would want if I were to get stuck out for the night…and it starts to rain.
I alter what I carry depending on where I am, when I am putting on and who I am with. The harder, longer and more remote the run… the more I want to make sure I am well equipped to last a night out if necessary.
Hope that helps!
Jim
