About UK

Fill-in-the-Blank Bio:
I’m not trying to avoid the real world , I’m just living life to the fullest, or at least that’s what my dad says. I’ve hauled my kayaks no less than half of my ten cross-country trips, stopping wherever I can find good food and friends. While uncovering beautiful places and rad people, I occasionally settle down, but that doesn’t mean I can’t live out of a van too! My favorite way to grow is to be both a teacher and a student, but I also love playing the day away.

Hometown:
Allentown, PA, and now Portland, OR

Years Paddling/Boating:
11

Favorite Waters:
White Salmon-Green Truss, Upper Yough, and any river I need multiple days to paddle

Hero(s):
John Reagan, Andy Round, Chara Whittemore, Kara Weld, Jennie Goldberg, Jeff Snyder, Drew Austell, Doug Ammons

Off-the-Water Activities:
Advocating for the protection of my favorite waters, yoga, writing, potlucks and hiking with wine bottles in my bag

Music Rotation:
Beastie Boys, Bob Marley, M83, Gillian Welch, Bon Iver, and a bit of everything else

Sponsors:
NRS, Dagger Kayaks, Astral, Lole Women’s Clothing

Why do you Paddle?
I paddle to sync my body with an unstopable natural force, to be fully present, to feel confident and vulnerable simultaneously, to see incredible places few others get to see, and to share that experience with others.
